Colombian Mangrove Ringtone

Data sonification has been a useful technique for exploring patterns and detecting anomalies or outliers in very large or even big data sets in fields such as particle physics, earth and planetary sciences, and oceanography, among others. But what about using data translation into sounds to compose actual music.

Here’s an example using land cover data around marine protected areas with mangrove holdings in Colombia.

A short piece, a ringtone, to enjoy everyday on your mobile phones and engage others at home into the mangrove conservation discussion and awareness.

Look for poster abstract in the proceedings book. Manuscript to be submitted to the special issue.
